Conference and Speaker Grants.

The Society for the Study of French History is willing to entertain requests for funding assistance for whole conferences, one-off lectures, and seminars, organised by postgraduates or academics in British or Irish universities, on a subject or topic engaging substantively with French history, either in a focused or comparative manner. At the discretion of the trustees, the Society may contribute up to £500 towards any single conference, lecture, or seminar series, provided evidence can be shown that approaches have also been made to the British Academy, the Royal Historical Society or other appropriate bodies.

Applications should be no longer than three pages and submitted as a PDF file. For conferences, they should include information on the rationale for the conference and a list of confirmed speakers and topics; for lectures, they should include information on the rationale for the lecture and the confirmed speaker; for seminars, they should include information on the rationale for the seminar, the programme, and a list of confirmed speakers. In addition, all applications should also contain a budget (including an indication of the amount requested from the Society and the uses to which this will be put), an indication of what other sources of funding have been confirmed or applied for, and details on expected outcomes.

The Deadlines are Friday 23 September 2016 and Friday 17 February 2017 (2 deadlines).

Applicants must be Members of the Society. It will be a condition of any award that the Society is acknowledged prominently as a supporter of the conference, that a flyer for the Society be included in any conference pack, and that a brief report on the conference be submitted to the Society’s news editor, Dr Jessica Wardaugh (J.Wardhaugh@warwick.ac.uk) and copied to the Secretary, Dr. Andrew W M Smith no later than four weeks after the event. Report or extracts thereof may be published in the Society’s journal French History and in the News section of the website.
