The First World War, a coalition warfare
Doctoral and post-doctoral studies conference
The Centre d’Histoire des sociétés, des sciences et des conflits (CHSSC) of Université de Picardie-Jules Verne (France) and the Department of History, University of Warwick (UK) organise a conference day for doctoral and post-doctoral researchers on Thursday 15th December 2016 in partnership with the French Cultural Institute, which will be hosting the conference in London.
The conference is aimed to promote contacts and the establishment of a network of French and British early-career researchers. After a first edition in 2015, the 2016 conference will gather doctoral and post-doctoral researchers from French or British research institutions.
The theme for 2016 is : The First World War, a coalition warfare.
The conference intends to discuss the global and transnational nature of the First World War and to address several approaches of coalition warfare : military and operational issues, logistics, social experiences, intermingling and circulations within the coalitions, cultures and memories. The conference will draw specific attention to methodological approaches. Proposals from all disciplines and comparative papers are encouraged.
Applicants are asked to submit a 300-word abstract of the proposed paper and a curriculum vitae by 20 August 2016. The proposals can be submitted in French or English. We intend to provide limited assistance towards travel expenses for those researchers whose institutions do not offer conference funding. Accommodation for the night of 14th December can be provided. Applicants are asked to state their needs in this regard while submitting the proposal.
The papers will be published.

La Première Guerre mondiale, guerre de coalition
Journée d’étude doctorale et post-doctorale
Le Centre d’Histoire des sociétés, des sciences et des conflits (CHSSC) de l’Université de Picardie-Jules Verne (France) et le Department of History, University of Warwick (UK) organisent une journée d’étude doctorale le jeudi 15 décembre 2016 en partenariat avec l’Institut Français au Royaume-Uni, qui accueillera la journée à Londres.
Cette journée a pour ambition de favoriser les contacts et la constitution d’un réseau de jeunes chercheurs franco-britanniques, dans le prolongement d’une première journée organisée en 2015. Elle rassemblera des doctorants ou post-doctorants issus de laboratoires français ou britanniques.
Le thème retenu pour l’année 2016 est : La Première Guerre mondiale, guerre de coalition.
S’inscrivant dans un renouvellement historiographique attentif aux logiques transnationales d’un conflit globalisé, cette journée souhaite mettre en perspective les différentes approches d’une guerre de coalition : alliances militaires, coordination tactique, organisation logistique, expériences sociales, contacts et échanges culturels, mémoires du conflit.
La journée souhaite en particulier mettre l’accent sur les approches méthodologiques liées à l’étude de la guerre de coalition : réflexion sur les sources et approches comparatives notamment.
Les propositions issues de toutes les disciplines sont les bienvenues. Les communications comparatives ou interdisciplinaires sont encouragées.
Les communications feront l’objet d’une publication.
Les propositions de communication en 300 mots environ seront accompagnées d’un curriculum vitae synthétique. Nous vous remercions d’indiquer dès à présent vos besoins en terme de transport et d’hébergement. Une prise en charge forfaitaire du transport pourra être envisagée pour ceux qui ne disposeraient pas de financement. L’hébergement pourra être assuré par l’Institut français pour la nuit du 14 décembre.
